The Adventure Continues!

We started the day off with some orienteering... Checking out maps of the city Finding the school and host family's house  And then off they went! To find their host family's house and the school. It was a long day for our students, but they came back with some pretty amazing stories! They learned how the streets are numbered, practiced asking for directions, got lost, met new friends, figured out how to get on the buses and (very important!) get off  the buses and met up with us for dinner. Sharing stories Eating some delicious traditional food ( papadzules) Tired, but happy!  Hopefully we all get a good nights sleep because tomorrow we continue the adventure! We will leave from the city bright and early to begin our tour of tYucatan. In the next two days we will visit the coast, practice sleeping in hammocks, visit las coloradas  where salt is harvested, explore two different Mayan ruins, swim in a beautiful cenote  (natural well) and eat more amazin

Panuchos for Pirates

Our valiant treasure-hunting students returned exhausted but excited about what they had seen and experienced. They visited museums, municipal buildings, the market, local landmarks, public parks and more. They spoke with young and old, tried new fruits, got a little lost and even learned some Maya (some even had time for a siesta)! As a reward we met up in a park for some delicious Yucatecan food; panuchos, salbutes and tamales!

Here we go!

Llegaron! Our students for the winter 2016 Total Immersion program have arrived! Getting started We are excited to welcome 8 students who will participate in our December total immersion program. For the first month they will focus on language classes and spend time with host families. Most will continue on with us through January and February when they will delve more into anthropology and history and have the opportunity to travel around the peninsula and experience life in rural communities. Our director giving the students some tips for navigating the city This morning we met up for a brief orientation to our activity for the day: a treasure hunt! Off they go! Stay tuned to see what kind of treasures they find!
